En décembre 2012, Tognazy et sa soeur enceinte de Avotra se sont enfuies alors que les militaires incendiaient leur village, Voromiantsa. Avotra est né dans la forêt et sa mère est morte en accouchant. Tognazy a marché pendant 3 jours avec son neveu dans les bras avant d'atteindre la ville de Betroka. In December 2012, Tognazy and his sister, pregnant with Avotra, fled from their village, Voromiantsa, which was being set on fire by the military.
