13-02-2013. Madrid. Spanish people mourn for the end of carnival and the beginning of lent by burying a symbolic sardine during 'The burial of the Sardine' (El Entierro de la Sardina) festival. The tradition comes from the reign of King Carlos III of Spain in the 18th century. The burial of the sardine is famous by a painting by Spanish artist Francisco de Goya called 'El Entierro de La Sardina'.
